Amazon refunded me $3200+ that I didn’t know about

Many sellers and I have been discovering that Amazon does not always reimburse you for any inventory they damage or lose. They're supposed to do reimbursements 'automatically' but there's a whole lot they can forget. Which is where you come in: you have to ask (=file a case with Amazon).

I've received reimbursements of over $3200 in just a couple months. That's from about 1 year's worth of lost/damaged/improperly reimbursed inventory. Those reimbursements are paid to me just like Amazon's regular payments. There have been reports of $250,000+ annual sellers being reimbursed $3,000 to $10,000 at a time.

Many sellers like to investigate and  submit reimbursement requests on their own, but that can take hours (I, for one, don't have the time). If you want to know how, here's some help.

How can you get reimbursed from Amazon? This assumes you have legitimate situations where Amazon forgot to reimburse you for lost/damaged/improperly reimbursed inventory. I didn't know I had any eligible cases until I hired services (#2 and #3 below) to do it for me. So your results may vary.

1.) Low-cost method - Do it yourself with this $19 How-to e-book, from my trusted partner. Or, consider using a service like I did (#2 and #3 below)

2) Moderately low cost - I hired a virtual freelancer "Andy" from FreeeUp (a trusted partner of mine) for $30/hour. He spent about 3 hours cleaning up the whole reimbursements from my wife's account and got her back over $1200. I highly recommend FreeeUp for any/all of your Amazon seller 'grunt work'.

3.) A little pricier but worth it - I pay Karen Locker's team a monthly fee to manually go through my Amazon seller accounts and do more than just reimbursements. They will:

  • Reconcile returns and refunds that Amazon 'forgot'. (that's money owed to me)
  • Fix stranded inventory (that's FBA inventory that I would otherwise be unable to sell)
  • File Amazon cases for lost, damage and destroyed items for reimbursement (that's money owed to me).
  • Maintain overall account health (e.g., request negative feedback removal) and more (that helps me win the buy box)

Warning: You may be considering using software to collect/submit your reimbursements (instead of the above options 1 -3). I don't recommend software for automatic submission of the requests to Amazon as they might be flagged if Amazon receives too many submissions in a short period of time. I tried a software a couple years ago and I received a polite warning from Amazon. However, software that just 'collects' the information for you (where you and/or the software provider has to then manually submit the requests to Amazon) is fine as long as you trust the software provider.

        Thanks Jordan. For some reason the order now button wasn’t showing on my phone, but it was fine on my laptop. I’ve since ordered and read the ebook. It didn’t take long to find inventory we haven’t been reimbursed for!

        One thing I wasn’t sure about on the adjustment spreadsheet, was stock with the disposition of “SELLABLE” – these items, if returned, would be put back into our inventory – any idea how those sorts of item are handled?

          To my knowledge those items are put back in your inventory for any customer to buy.

    Jordan, thank you for the information, appreciated. In fact last December I tried one of the services https://www.amzrefund.com/ which did get me back just less than $1,000, I submitted the info myself as directed from them.

    I was planning on re-run this program again, TODAY I got a message from Amazon, telling me about 3rd party, software is a violation of TOS.

    I will give your methods a try, thanks for the information,, FYI, I asked AmZ Refund about my e-mail from Amazon, let you know their respond.

      Hi Russ.

      I got the same message from Amazon BUT I had used a 3rd party service a few years ago. The “Word On THe Street” is that Amazon sellers who have only been using “manual” service providers (like the ones I referenced above) are NOT receiving those warning messages from Amazon.
